Equipmake agrees partnership with H55 to advance electric aircraft

Equipmake, the UK-based engineering specialist pioneering the development and production of electrification products across the automotive, aerospace, bus, coach and fire truck industries, has agreed to develop a technology partnership which will see it supply state-of-the-art electric motors to H55, the leading electric aerospace propulsion company.

Announced at the AERO 2023 show in Friedrichshafen, Germany, the relationship will see Equipmake's lightweight, power dense electric motors used by H55 on the BRM Bristell B23 Energic aircraft, a two-seater electric trainer designed for flight schools and pilot training.

Equipmake will support H55 in prototype development with the intention to develop certified propulsion systems.  Equipmake has been chosen for its expertise in advanced electrification technology and rapid manufacturing with the bespoke high-performance motors created for H55 using its proprietary rotor design.

Ian Foley, CEO, Equipmake said: "Through our lightweight, power dense electric motors, we're delighted to be partnering with H55 and are looking forward to working with the team on the BRM Aero project - from development all the way through to certified systems - which will result in an advanced electric two-seater training aircraft.

"This is a further endorsement for our pioneering electrification products as we seek to support multiple industries, including the automotive and aerospace sectors, to decarbonise and experience the full benefits of fully electric propulsion."

André Borschberg, Executive Chairman, H55 said: "Our mission is to bring electric propulsion solutions to enable the aviation industry to reach net zero CO2 by 2050. To do this we choose to partner with leaders in the field of electrification technology. With its sector-leading, lightweight, power dense motor technology, Equipmake is one of those companies. We are delighted to be working together."
