Director appointment

Mears, the provider of support services to the Social Housing and Care sectors in the UK, announces the appointment of Amanda Hillerby as an Employee Director with effect from 11 June 2018 following her election at the AGM. Amanda has worked for the Group since 2011, commencing her career on the Group's graduate management programme during which she worked across all areas of the business including Care, Housing and Central Support. Amanda is currently delivering a national role of Quality Manager within the Care division.

Commenting, Bob Holt, Chairman, Mears Group, said:

"I am delighted at the appointment of an Employee Director to the Board. Mears is one of the first listed companies to take this bold step. The Board firmly believes that better employee representation can improve the quality of decision making. The benefits of listening to employees and engaging them in both consultation and decision making are already widely recognised. This role will assist the Board in receiving full, open and honest insight and views from its workforce on how strategic initiatives are implemented, and will provide the workforce with a better understanding of how the Board operates."

Notes for editors

Mears employs around 12,000 people and provides services in every region of the UK. In partnership with our Housing clients, we maintain, repair and upgrade the homes of hundreds of thousands of people in communities from remote rural villages to large inner city estates. Mears has extended its activities to provide broader housing solutions to solve the challenge posed by the lack of affordable housing. Our Care teams provide support to over 15,000 people a year, enabling older and disabled people to continue living in their own homes.

We focus on long-term outcomes for people rather than short-term solutions, and invest in innovations that make a positive impact on people's quality of life and on their communities' social, economic and environmental wellbeing.
