Financial News: Niki Beattie joins Aquis as inaugural chairperson
March 25, 2013
Niki Beattie, one of Financial News’ top 100 most influential women in European financial markets last year, has been appointed as the first chairperson of the proposed pan-European equities trading venue Aquis Exchange, the company said this morning.
Aquis was founded in October by former Chi-X Europe chief executive, Alasdair Haynes, and is pursuing regulatory approval with the UK’s Financial Services Authority. Aquis intends to adopt a novel, fixed monthly subscription pricing model, to bring renewed competition to European equity markets.
Beattie, who spent more than 10 years at Merrill Lynch, rising to become its head of market structure for Emea, said: “I’ve always been involved and interested in disruptive market infrastructure projects and I like the Aquis story regarding the subscription model. The main exchanges have almost given up on equities and are chasing derivatives, but equities aren’t going to go away. Someone has to rethink the model.”
